Apple Watch Series 4: A GPS + LTE-based watch that shows more than time

The Watch Series 4 supports LTE for internet and calling, so you can use it as a standalone device for most of the things that you do on a smartphone.

I have used at least half a dozen smartwatches in the past year, but none fascinating enough to keep my favourite Fossil-made analog watch off my wrist for too long. However, after using the new Apple Watch Series 4 for a week, I seem to have finally found a worthy replacement.

Announced at the Apple Keynote event in September, along with the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max, the Watch Series 4 is more than just a smartwatch — it is a companion that runs errand for you, monitors your health, and tracks your fitness goals. Importantly, it also supports LTE for internet and calling, so you can use it as a standalone device for most of the things that you do on a smartphone.

I might sound old-school, but when it comes to watches, I am more for its utilities than looks or features. What blew me away this time was the Watch Series 4’s solid combination of looks and functionality. The Watch Series 4 comes in two sizes – 40mm and 44mm. I have been using the 40mm GPS + LTE unit with an aluminium casing, and it sits just right on the top of my wrist. This is the first time that Apple has changed the look of its smartwatch, and the difference is subtle but useful.

Before we delve into the details, let’s take a quick look at the key specifications of the Watch Series 4 – 40mm GPS + LTE unit with an aluminium casing:

Apple expected to unveil its biggest and most expensive iPhone on Wednesday

Apple also is expected to release an iPhone with minor updates to last year's $1,000 model and another version made of cheaper materials, including a 6.1-inch LCD screen.

Apple is expected to unveil its biggest and most expensive iPhone on Wednesday as part of a lineup of three new models aimed at widening the product's appeal amid slowing sales growth.

Most of the buzz is swirling around a rumoured iPhone that is supposed to boast a 6.5-inch OLED screen, up from 5.8 inches on the existing iPhone X.

OLED is a step up from traditional LCD technology in offering a display without a backlight, so black is truly black rather than simply dark.

If the speculation pans out, the even-bigger iPhone would represent Apple's attempt to feed consumers' appetite for increasingly bigger screens as they rely on smartphones to watch and record video, as well as take photos wherever they are.

The iPhone X, a dramatically redesigned model released last fall, got rid of the home button and introduced facial-recognition technology to unlock the device.

It was the first mass-market smartphone to demand a $1,000 starting price. Although the iPhone X didn't fulfill analysts' lofty sales expectations, it fared well enough for Apple to up the ante with the bigger model, whose price is expected to unveil Wednesday.

Apple also is expected to release an iPhone with minor updates to last year's $1,000 model and another version made of cheaper materials, including a 6.1-inch LCD screen.
Even so, the cheaper iPhone is still expected to sell for $650 to $750. The cheaper phone also is expected to lose the home button. Price cuts for older models, with the home button, are also likely.

Names for the new devices aren't known. The company may also announce a new smartwatch. Apple didn't comment ahead of Wednesday's event, which is being held at its Cupertino, California, headquarters.

By making more expensive iPhones, Apple has been able to boost its profits despite waning demand as people upgrade phones less frequently. iPhones fetched an average price of $724 during the April-June period, a nearly 20 per cent increase from a year earlier.

Apple to livestream Sep 12 event from 10:30 PM in India: Things to know

On September 12 , Apple is expected to unveil iPhones 2018, MacBook 2018, iPad Pro 2018 and Apple Watch Series 4.

Apple Inc, a Cupertino-based technology giant, is hosting an event tomorrow (September 12) where the company is expected to unveil iPhones 2018, MacBook 2018, iPad Pro 2018 and Apple Watch Series 4.

The most anticipated event of the year will be livestreamed on company’s official global web portal, which can be viewed on an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch using Safari on iOS 10 or later; a Mac using Safari on macOS Sierra 10.12 or later; or a PC using Windows 10 and Microsoft Edge. The live webcast will also be streamed on Apple TV via AirPlay, but requires an Apple TV (2nd generation or later) with the latest Apple TV software or tvOS. Other platforms may also be able to access the stream using recent versions of Chrome or Firefox (MSE, H.264, and AAC required).

Here is what to expect from Apple event on September 12:

Apple iPhone XS

The iPhone XS is expected to be the premium-edition model with an OLED screen in the upcoming range of iPhone 2018. According to the leak, the phone would come in two screen sizes – 5.8-inch and 6.5-inch. The leak does not reveal if the phone would be based on the iPhone X concept, therefore there is no confirmation on the screen notch. The phone, however, is said to feature a glass-metal-glass design that Apple introduced with the iPhone 8 series.

In terms of specifications, the phone would be powered by the Apple A12 chipset, mated with 4GB of RAM and three different storage variants – 64GB, 256GB and 512GB. Imaging is expected to be taken care of by a dual-lens setup with FaceID on the front. Details on the primary camera are missing. The iPhone XS is tipped to be priced at $899 and $999 for the 5.8-inch and 6.5-inch screen variants, respectively. The phone would be available in space grey, silver, and gold colour options.

Apple iPhone XC

The iPhone XC, on the other hand, is tipped to use an LCD screen instead of the OLED panel. It would sport a 6.1-inch screen and feature a glass and aluminium design. The phone is also expected to be powered by the A12 processor. However, it would get a 3GB RAM, mated with two storage configurations -- 64GB and 256GB. The iPhone XC is tipped to feature a single-lens camera on the back, and would also feature FaceID and 3D Touch. The iPhone XC is tipped to be priced at $749 and would be available in grey, red, blue, orange and white colour options...Read More
